The title sums it up. The first half was nice and the second half was bad.
Minnale was freak. Kaakha Kaakha & Vettaiyadu were rehashed. Pachai Kili Muthucharam was a bad bad copy of Derailed. And now VA is heavily inspired from Forrest Gump, though we need to give Gautam the benefit of doubt when he says it was a tribute to his father.
Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies. Gautam has based his story on the dialogue from FG.
“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Instead of mummy in FG, it is daddy in VA. The first half was super cool. Surya really looked like a teen. The dad looked charming though Simran looked a little out of place. Till interval the movie is smooth. Post interval the movie is a torture. The kidnap-rescue drama was like WTF.
An honest question – Is joining the army and becoming a major in 6 years as easy as they show in movies ?
Sameera, Divya come and go. Nothing much to do.
In Harris’ music, songs are definitely listen-able though only “Ava Enna Enna thedi vandha Anjala” sounds like original. At least to me, other songs are like a rehash of his other songs.
Too many English dialogues but that is definitely not a ‘No-Go’.
An out and out Surya movie and he has done very well. The effort he has put in has to be appreciated.
The screenplay is not as bad as it was in Pachaikili but definitely not good.
Need a lot of patience to watch this movie.
PS1 : Need to credit the ‘Wah Ranam’ to one of my friends.
PS2: As I was reviewing this post, I realised all Gautam’s movies are based on the same premise that I have mentioned above. Or it is only coincidental ? Or is it just me ?
I loved the movie. Yeah, it is a spin off from the 1993 movie Judgement Night. Venkat has given a different feel to the movie with a racy screenplay.
The movie begins with some disconnected sequences brought together towards the end of first half. And a nice build up to the climax with a surprise in the end.
Charan, Siva, Vaibhav and Premji fit easily into the roles. Siva seems to suffer from the hangover of his FM days. (Is he still with Mirchi?). A few oneliners of Premji were brilliant.”Andha train Chennai pogadha?”, “Nee goluti nu therinju poi andha ponnu onna vittutala”, “I was helpless; I was cornered” definitely bring laughter.
An item number to satiate the audience aswell.
Venkat’s strength seems to be the screenplay in which he has effortlessly mixed the serious situations with funny dialogues. He has come out shining in both his movies because of this technique. Need to wait and watch if he can do serious movies aswell. (Oh! am I trying to judge him here?)
Sa-Ro-Ja Rocks.
